I’m Ryan Stone, a photojournalism student at Western Kentucky University. I started my college career out elsewhere and migrated west towards Kentucky. Since coming to WKU I’ve solidified what I want to do for the rest of the my life…photojournalism.
I never really wanted to take pictures. I wanted to work on computers but things change when you take that first picture. I remember hearing the mirror-slap sound and knowing that I was doing the right thing. As time moved on I realized brick walls and leaves on the ground were, boring. Once I got to college I changed my major to journalism and never looked back. I want to make a difference and change people’s lives.
I don’t do photography for the money nor do I plan on making a lot from it. I derive more joy from the look on someone’s face when they see a photo than I can from a $20 bill (too bad smiles don’t fill my gas tank). I’d like nothing more than to work at a newspaper in a tight-knit and diverse community.
“The newspaper business is going down in flames, but crisis is opportunity. PJ is stronger than ever … and will outlast newspaper companies demise just like it did the need for cameras that use film.” ~Brian Masck
